Jolla unveils Sailfish OS, promises better performance and truly open source!

Jolla unveiled Sailfish OS today at Slush event in Helsinki. Jolla isn’t only targeting smartphones, but also tablets and smart TV’s. Jolla said that Sailfish OS will first truly open source OS. Jolla’s Sailfish OS SDK will be released today and company is going to demo it tomorrow at Slush event in Helsinki.

Main feature is of course multitasking, Sailfish OS will be deeply personalized and “fast and effortless interaction”. Many Android apps will also run on Jolla’s Sailfish OS without modification, only simple port is required to get the best operation.

Jolla will start campaign and partnership with Finnish carrier DNA, to promote and sell Sailfish OS products. I must say that Sailfish OS is like MeeGo, but ten times better.

It’s always nice to see new OS in the market, as Jolla’s CEO Marc Dillon said: “Smartphone OS market is dominated by two OS’s”. It’s amazing to see Jolla’s OS finally unveiled and it’s going to be great add to the smartphone OS market.
