LG Optimus G sells 1 million units, reportedly heading to Europe and China in Q1!
LG announed that they have now shipped 1 million Optimus G smartphones. Company also revealed that it’s going to bring Optimus G to Europe and to China in Q1 2013. LG Optimus G was launched in the latter part of 2012, and now LG proudly announced that they have reached 1 million units shipped milestone. While you can’t quite compare these sales number to Galaxy S3 or iPhone, 1 million units shipped from LG is pretty impressive considering the limited availability of the device. LG Optimus G is currently available in South Korea, Canada, Japan and the United States.
LG is on the increase in term of smartphone sales, in Q3 2012 company broke it’s record in smartphones sales, and that was even before Nexus 4 sales numbers. LG is set to announce it’s Q4 earnings on January 30th, and it will be very interested how Nexus 4 impacted these numbers.
HAPIfork brings eating to the new era, tracks every meal on your iPhone!
One of the wildest and futuristic gadgets in the CES 2013 must be HAPIfork. It’s a “smart fork” that has a bluetooth radio, a capacitive sensor, and a vibration motor built-in. Basic idea is that as you eat, every time the fork touches your mouth it triggers a sensor, measuring your bites on the app. It even tells you to eat slower by vibrating if you eat too fast. HAPIfork was created by French HABIlabs’, and the idea was to help you to eat slower and it helps you lose weight.
The fork pairs with your mobile app that not only tracks every bite, but also when your meal begins, ends, and even how long each “fork duration” is. Hapilabs says that its fork will be available soon for $99.99. A USB version that pairs with your computer is set for release in Q2, but if you want to hook your fork up to your mobile you’ll have to wait until Q3 for the Bluetooth-enabled version.
HTC made only $34 million profits last quarter, it’s lowest profits since 2004!
Accroding to report from Bloomberg, Taiwanese company HTC, made just $34 million in net income in quarter 4 2012. quarter 4 2012′s net income is the lowest income company made since the 2004. Company’s finances were actually slightly better than analysts expected, but $99 million drop from the Q3, and $322 million drop from year-over-year is not very pretty to watch. Even Taiwanese company released multiple flagship models(DROID DNA and Windows Phone 8X) they couldn’t make the best out of it. Need to remember too that these releases were in the middle of the quarter and so didn’t fully impact to the final result. HTC’s CEO Peter Chou though believes that “the worst for HTC has probably passed,” adding that the company will increase marketing budget considerably in effort to compete with Samsung.
Bloomberg: HTC will introduce 7-inch and 12-inch Windows RT tablets in 2013!
HTC is introducing 7-inch and 12-inch Windows RT tablets in 2013, according to report from Bloomberg. The 7-inch and 12-inch tablets are based on Qualcomm chips with Windows RT. If you remember earlier reports that HTC is excluded from the Windows tablet world. If this new report will become reality, we can wait HTC Windows RT tablets in Q3 2013, although there’s no information about the pricing.
More interesting this makes is that, 7-inch tablet is said to be able of making phone calls, similar as Samsung Galaxy tab 7.7. HTC’s entry to the Windows tablet world is based on Microsoft’s desire for more manufacturers and greater diversity in the tablet lineup.

Gartner has released a mobile phones and smartphones sales report for Q3 2012. Mobile phone sales are slowing again on Q3, but smartphone sales jumped up 46.7 percent. Smartphone sales accounted 39.6 percent of total mobile phones sold. Not surprising for anyone Samsung (005930) and Apple (AAPL) both vendors together controlled 46.5 percent of smartphone market, leaving others far behind. Nokia (NOK) slipped from 3rd position in the second quarter of 2012 to 7th position in smartphone sales. Rim moved to 3rd and HTC is now 4th, both companies seeing their sales declining rapidly.

IDC: Tablet shipments up 6.7 percent in Q3 2012, Apple’s market share drops!
Tablet shipments grew 6.7 percent in quarter three of 2012 and there’s no surprise that Apple is still holding top position. Tablet shipments grew also staggering 49.5 percent since the same period last year. Apple shipped almost half of the 27.8 million tablets shipments in Q3 2013, but still lost significant amount of market share, dropping to 50.4 percent from 65.5 precent in the second quarter. Main reason for Apple’s drop is according to IDC that customers wanted to wait for iPad Mini to arrive, but they also think that iPad Mini’s high asking price $329 might turn customers to get less expensive Android tablet.
Samsung was the second on the list shipping over 5 million tablets in quarter three and increasing market share to 18.4 percent, mainly because of good sales of Galaxy Tab and Note 10.1. ASUS shipped around 2.5 tablets, thanks to huge popularity of Nexus 7. Amazon shipped also around 2.5 million tablets, mainly of Kindle Fire HD success.
IDC previosuly expected Apple’s tablet market share to drop down and Android tablets sales to go up, and it seems now that those predictions are slowly coming true.
