Breaking: Finnish mobile accessory maker Golla sues Jolla over similar name!

golla-logo_2

Finnish mobile accessory manufacturer Golla sues Jolla over similar name. Golla justifies suing Jolla over similar name because company has used Golla name for 12 years now, and have used over 2 million euros at registration the brand. Golla have not closed the possibility of making smartphones in the future, and it would be awkward to have two smartphone manufacturers with almost the same name.

“We can not stand next to the track, but we have to defend the rights of Gollan. We have built our brand for 12 years and spent two million euros to various registrations. Then appears the company, whose name is very similar to ours” -Petri Kähkönen, CEO of Golla.

Jolla shows it’s upcoming Sailfish OS in video tour!

JollaSailFishOS

It must be one of the most anticipated OS launches in year 2013. Jolla told that they are going to launch first Sailfish OS operated smartphones in coming months. In this video (after the break), Jolla shows it’s Sailfish OS to Engadget. It’s already know that Sailfish builds on MeeGo quite effectively, and this video shows that there will be a lot appeal. As you know Sailfish will be gesture centric, and many native apps will respond to gesture commands even when those apps are presented as “cards” on the home screen. All the apps seems to be very responsive, and those apps you’ll see in this video are fairly representative in the final build of the Sailfish OS. Jolla won’t show us much in the video except contacts app, music app, photos and home screens.

Jolla’s Sailfish OS supports Android Apps but not Google Play!

Jolla’s Sailfish OS supports Android apps, but won’t allow you to download them from Google Play, according to report from 3T.

- We are currently figuring out options to share applications, and we will also discuss with current service providers, Marc Dillon CEO of Jolla told in interview with 3T.

At least first there’s not going to be Google Play included, but there’s also many other app providing services, which shares Android apps, including Opera Mobile Store, Amazon AppStore, Handango and GetJar. It’s still unclear, which app sharing providers Jolla will use or even which ones they are now in discussions.

It’s very important for Jolla to make a deal with Android App providers as there’s now more than 700,000 Android apps.
Android is open source, unlike Apple, which keeps strict control on what apps are accepted in App Store. This fact also makes Android vulnerable for malicious apps.

Jolla is also launching it’s first smartphone in next year.
