Alicia Keys is BlackBerry’s new Global Creative Director!!
You might have missed this, but it seems that BlackBerry loves Alicia Keys a lot, i mean that lot that the company hired her to be company’s Global Creative Director. It’s still unclear what her work remit will be, but app development was mentioned. There was also other famous fans mentioned such souls like Neil Gaiman and Robert Rodriguez. It seems that if you are famous enough, you could even be a smartphone company director.
YouTube bringing paid subscription feature this spring?!
YouTube is rumored to introduce paid subscription options for individual channels, according to report from AdAge. YouTube is trying to compete more with traditional television, and the company is reportedly offering to small group of producers ability to create channels that users can only view if they pay monthly fee. The fee is said to be around $1-$5 per month. Source who spoke with AdAge also told that Google is introducing this feature in second quarter of this year. My question for you today is that would you pay in order to watch YouTube?
Instagram has now 90 million monthly active users, 40 million photos posted daily!
Despite it’s Terms of Service incident last month, Instagram is going strong, and now the company offered some details of it’s monthly users for the first time. Instagram now has 90 million monthly users, and that’s 10 percent up from December to January. Instagram’s Kevin Systrom also told to AllThingsD that the company “continues to see very strong growth around the world.” How many photo’s 90 million users post daily then? Well according to Instagram there’s 40 million photo uploaded daily, thats huge, along with 8,500 likes per second and 1,000 comments per second. Imgur wants to become YouTube of of photos!
Imgur has been known as the image provider for Reddit, but it’s recently released galleries features is helping the site to transform from invisible image provider to prime destination for viewing photos. The site served up to 3.8 billion pageviews to 56 million unique visitors, according to the article from TechCrunch. One big fact is that, now 40 percent of Imgur visitors came from direct visitors to the site, rather than being referred from other sites like Reddit. Imgur founder told that a big part of that traffic was thanks to it’s new gallery feature. Imgur wants to be YouTube of photos and it’s important to the company to break it’s dependency on Reddit.
Samsung Galaxy S series: Over 100 million shipped!
Samsung Galaxy S3 hits 30 million device shipped, but Samsung has something even bigger in it’s sleeves. According to Samsung, company has sold more than 100 million Galaxy S devices. The line of popular smartphones passed 100 million mark 2 years and 7 months after the original Galaxy S hit the market. Company also told that Galaxy S2 has now sold 40 million units, doubling it’s sales since February. New Galaxy S devices like Galaxy S3 mini has sold pretty good too, but company told that they sell 190,000 Galaxy S3 units daily, and that’s 500 phones per minute, pretty impressive i must say.
RIM: At least six BlackBerry 10 devices launched in 2013!
Everone knows that RIM is going to launch two BlackBerry 10 devices, but now it seems that the company won’t stop there. According to report from Fierce Wireless, RIM is planning to launch “at least” six BlackBerry 10 devices in 2013. Site got their information from interview they did with RIM’s CMO frank Boulben, he also said that “the company would aim to hit a range of price points.” So you can expect low, middle and high-end BB10 devices in 2013. It’s still unclear though that does this mean RIM is not going to offer BB7 devices in the future.

In part of the new section on TonisTechBlog, we are interviewing interesting persons in Finnish technology are. This time we get the chance to interview with former New Product Wizard at Rovio, and now CEO of the Electric car manufacturer Scarlet Motors, Julien Fourgeaud. Julien ran his management consulting company for mobile strategy, LeCatalyst. His company helped corporates like Vodafone, Nokia and startups to leverage their product innovation cycle. Julien was also spokesperson for the Symbian Foundation, responsible to communicate the future of the Symbian platform at various international events. Read the full interview after the break.
HTC made only $34 million profits last quarter, it’s lowest profits since 2004!
Accroding to report from Bloomberg, Taiwanese company HTC, made just $34 million in net income in quarter 4 2012. quarter 4 2012′s net income is the lowest income company made since the 2004. Company’s finances were actually slightly better than analysts expected, but $99 million drop from the Q3, and $322 million drop from year-over-year is not very pretty to watch. Even Taiwanese company released multiple flagship models(DROID DNA and Windows Phone 8X) they couldn’t make the best out of it. Need to remember too that these releases were in the middle of the quarter and so didn’t fully impact to the final result. HTC’s CEO Peter Chou though believes that “the worst for HTC has probably passed,” adding that the company will increase marketing budget considerably in effort to compete with Samsung.
Google teases new Google TV partners, and one of them is ASUS!
Google TV is going to be huge in CES2013, which starts next week, as the company wants to make it’s platform more mainstream. Google announced on Friday a number of of upcoming partnerships and upgrades, including products from Hisense, TCL, ASUS and more. Existing partners, LG, Sony and Vizio, among others, will show their latest Google TV platform.
More interestingly ASUS is going to introduce a device known as Qube, which is going to be similar to “Roku dongle.” It’s not surprise that ASUS is partnering with Google in order of doing “Qube”, remember Nexus 7?
