HTC made only $34 million profits last quarter, it’s lowest profits since 2004!
Accroding to report from Bloomberg, Taiwanese company HTC, made just $34 million in net income in quarter 4 2012. quarter 4 2012′s net income is the lowest income company made since the 2004. Company’s finances were actually slightly better than analysts expected, but $99 million drop from the Q3, and $322 million drop from year-over-year is not very pretty to watch. Even Taiwanese company released multiple flagship models(DROID DNA and Windows Phone 8X) they couldn’t make the best out of it. Need to remember too that these releases were in the middle of the quarter and so didn’t fully impact to the final result. HTC’s CEO Peter Chou though believes that “the worst for HTC has probably passed,” adding that the company will increase marketing budget considerably in effort to compete with Samsung.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 sold 3 million units worldwide!
Samsung launched Galaxy Note 2 one month ago and now it has sold 3 million units worldwide. The selling speed is very fast, actually if you compared it to the original Galaxy Note, it’s three times as fast. It’s not matching the Galaxy S3 selling speed, but it’s impressive numbers from a 5.5-inch phablet. Galaxy S3 selling speed was 20 million units sold in just 100 days, so Galaxy Note 2 needs to speed up things if it wants to be as successful. Maybe Note 2 still is too big to fit in your pocket, but check out Samsung’s new video of NBA Superstar LeBron James cracking a joke of Note 2(it’s part of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 ad campaign of course) .

Windows Phone 8 OTA goes finally live!
One of the big new features of Windows Phone 8 is the ability to do over-the-air (OTA) updates. Previously if you want to update your Windows Phone you need to plug in your smartphone to PC and update, but now you don’t. There are different sort and sized updates that can be delivered. Seems like Microsoft (MSFT) wants to take more control and hopefully is able to push fixes and updates more easily. In Windows Phone 8 updates are strictly OTA, but in later releases might have cable option as well.
There are two kinds of updates, automatic updates and manual updates. Automatic updates are downloaded to your device without the need of user. Manual updates need to be initiated by user.
Prompted (Manual) Update:
- You are informed that an update is ready to download. This will occur if you have opted out of automatic download of updates.
- The notification provides you the size and content of the update.
- You can postpone the update or authorize the download.
- You are prompted to connect to a Wi-Fi network.
- You can also allow the update to use your cellular data connection. This will use your cellular data plan. You will see a warning about the possibility of a cellular data charge.
- You are then informed when the update is ready. You can install immediately or postpone installation of the downloaded update.
- If you accept the update your phone will restart in the update bootloader screen. Once the update is complete your phone will restart again – to the updated operating system.
- You will see a dialog box that indicates that the update was successful.
Automatic Update:
- You are informed that an update is ready to install. You can postpone the update or install the update immediately.
- If you accept the update your phone will restart in the update bootloader screen. Once the update is complete your phone will restart again – to the updated operating system.
- You will see a dialog box that indicates that the update was successful.
- The update will take less than ten minutes in most cases, because the update has already been downloaded before you see the update notification.
Here is how to check updates: Settings->Phone Update
