NTT DoCoMo is partnering with Samsung to develop phones running the open-source Tizen operating system, according to report from from Japan’s Daily Yomiuri. First Tizen-based smartphone would be launched next year. According to the Yomiuri, other mobile phone carriers are also getting behind developing Tizen because they “fear” Apple’s and Google’s hegemony. Tizen operating system was first introduced back in September 2011, and came about when Nokia’s MeeGo OS was dumbed. Tizen’s main developers are Samsung and Intel, a major US semiconductor manufacturer. Also the development of apps for the new OS would be much more simpler.
