Interview_with_Jukka_Eklund

Tonistechblog got the change to interview, Jukka Eklund, multi-talent in Finnish technology area. Jukka Eklund, humble man from Tampere, Finland, have had his fare share in Nokia boom as he worked in the company for years, and after Nokia figured out it’s new business strategy it was time for Jukka to look something else. He stayed in the field of technology and being more specific in the area of consulting and advising one of the most anticipated startup in Finland, Jolla. Read the full interview after the break.

So who are you and what you did before Jolla / and what is your working title in Jolla?

- I’m Jukka Eklund, I have been making Internet, media and mobile services and products since the 90s. I left Nokia in the beginning of this year as the MeeGo operation was ramped down. I’m currently not a direct employee of Jolla but serve as both advisor and consultant. I don’t have a job title but how about “Chief Storyteller” :) So I work with the strategy and execution of marketing and communication aspects for Jolla and Sailfish.

How did you become part of Jolla?

- First of all, I have been a Nokia Linux ie. maemo and MeeGo fanboy since the beginning (remember Nokia 770?). Then I joined the MeeGo operation where we created the platform for the future. Once Nokia shifted the strategy to other things I got involved with the core team in the fall of 2011 that would become called Jolla eventually.

How do you feel now that Jolla Sailfish is out there, and you’ve been part of making it?

- It is satisfying in a way that we have been doing this with eg. the MeeGo, Mer and Qt community for quite some time now. And now we have the company created to make it a commercial reality with our friends. At same time I am just as anxious as our fans to have things like the SDK and the first product out, and share the next steps in this journey with you.

What Jolla means to you?

-It is very much a continuation of the values and spirit of what has drawn me to maemo and MeeGo in the first place. I know most of the people, and I am just amazed on a daily basis on their capabilities. I want to do my part in making Jolla the success it deserves to be!

What it means to you that Jolla is from Finland and not from U.S, China or somewhere else?

- As a native Finn of course I want to see new “seeds” to raise and flourish now that we are facing some harder times in the ICT industry as a whole. We have unique talents in the area and with Jolla we will make software and products that have global demand. Everybody wins, right? :)

Thank you Jukka for your interview and TonisTechBlog hopes all the best for you for the year of 2013, and let the next year be Unlike.
