Jolla unveils Sailfish OS, promises better performance and truly open source!

Jolla unveiled Sailfish OS today at Slush event in Helsinki. Jolla isn’t only targeting smartphones, but also tablets and smart TV’s. Jolla said that Sailfish OS will first truly open source OS. Jolla’s Sailfish OS SDK will be released today and company is going to demo it tomorrow at Slush event in Helsinki.

Main feature is of course multitasking, Sailfish OS will be deeply personalized and “fast and effortless interaction”. Many Android apps will also run on Jolla’s Sailfish OS without modification, only simple port is required to get the best operation.

Jolla will start campaign and partnership with Finnish carrier DNA, to promote and sell Sailfish OS products. I must say that Sailfish OS is like MeeGo, but ten times better.

It’s always nice to see new OS in the market, as Jolla’s CEO Marc Dillon said: “Smartphone OS market is dominated by two OS’s”. It’s amazing to see Jolla’s OS finally unveiled and it’s going to be great add to the smartphone OS market.

Jolla Mobile’s smartphone understands touch gestures!

Jolla Mobile‘s first smartphone understands touch gestures, Finnish tech magazine T3 reports in today’s magazine. Jolla Mobile CEO Jussi Hurmola revealed in T3 magazine that they are going to use touch gestures in their OS and relay on movement sensors. Jolla is launching it’s first OS in November at Slush event in Helsinki(tonistechblog will be at the launch event), their OS is called SailFish. Hurmola also says that “It’s the evolution of smartphone OS, similar when physical qwerty keyboard changed to touch keyboards“. For me this means that Jolla is bringing something innovative to it’s first OS and surely there’s not going to be so many physical buttons.

Jolla/Sailfish is the most searched new OS in Google!

Jolla’s Sailfish operating system is being searched from Google (GOOG) more than Windows 8 or BlackBerry 10, according to JollaTides. It’s also noted that some of these OS’s has been available and showed to the people, as Jolla’s OS is getting it’s first public showdown on November at Slush event. Theres only one OS which is searched more than Sailfish and that’s HP’s WebOS. Seems to me that Jolla is gaining huge popularity among devs and normal customers. Personally i’m very excited to see what Jolla’s Sailfish OS have to offer.

Jolla Mobile’s MeeGo phone is Going to be Different than Any other Phone in the Market!

STT interviewed Jolla Mobile’s CEO Jussi Hurmola, and he told little bit of new MeeGo smartphone. “Our MeeGo phone is going to look awesome and it’s used by those people who wants to be stick out from the crowds”, Hurmola commented. He also promises that Jolla Mobile’s MeeGo phone is not going to be only for “nerds”, you can do things with it, but it’s also easy and fun to use.

Hurmola also commented, “Our OS is going to be different than anybody else’s. Example you can find 20 different Android manufacturers in stores, but they all look same. Android OS is great, but it’s been around already for 5-7 years and it’s getting old”.

Sounds great, but what is the final product going to look like and is it as good as Hurmola says? We just have to wait and see.
