Mark Zuckerberg donates $500 million in Facebook stock to charity!
Facebook (FB) founder and the company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, have just donated $500 million in Facebook stocks to charity, that’s the right way to say happy holidays to me. Stocks were donated to Silicon Valley Community Foundation, with hopes that the funds will be applied to education and health programs. In the status update, Zuckerberg wrote that the donation was ” in order to lay the foundation for new projects” and that he is “hopeful we’ll be able to have as positive an impact in our next set of projects.”
This is not the first time that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has donated big amounts of money to charity, just before the company went to public he donated $100 million in company stock to Newark, N.J., public school districts. Check out the full Facebook post from Mark Zuckerberg after the break.
ZTE launching 5-inch U887 low-end phablet!
Samsung launched recently Galaxy Grand, a lower-end Galaxy Note 2. Now it’s believed that ZTE is going to launch a competitor to that phone. According to Gizchina, ZTE U887 packs 5-inch 800-by-480 display, dual-core 1.2GHz CPU with 2GB of RAM. This phablet supports also dual-band in China, both TD-SCDMA and GSM networks included. U887 looks like ZTE’z high-end device Nubia Z5, difference is that U887 packs only 5MP camera instead of 13MP. There’s no information about the pricing or the launch date, but i will keep you up to date.
Samsung to fix Exynos vulnerability in software update as soon as possible!
Samsung spokesperson has released a statement on it’s plans to fix the recently-discovered Exynos vulnerability issue. The company has indicated that they are aware of the issue and are prepared to move forward in order to fix it as soon as possible.
The exploit was discovered over the weekend, and the vulnerability allows malicious app to take advantage of the RAM and allowing it total control of the device. You can check out the list of affected devices and read the full press statement after the break.
VLC for Windows 8 has now raised 70% of it’s target, posts mockups to celebrate!
VLC haven’t been very forthcoming with updates, but now the company has released mockups of it’s upcoming Windows 8 Metro styled VLC app(will be launched only if they raise £40,000). Company released few mockups to celebrate of 70% funds raised, with still 10 days to go. It’s still unclear can they reach their goal or not, but they need your donations to make it.
Company also announced that they now know their 3 month development time scale is realistic, and that they should be able to launch VLC (Metro) for Windows 8 in April 2013. Australian carrier Telstra pushing out Jelly Bean update to Galaxy S3!
There’s some good news for you Australian Galaxy S3 owners. Australian carrier Telstra has started to push Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update to it’s Galaxy S3 devices. The update will become eligible to all Galaxy S3 device over the course of the next 14 days. Some customers are already reporting that their device has been prompted to download Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update on their handsets OTA. The update file size is also reported of being 295MB. Apple releases iOS 6.0.2 update!
Apple has just released iOS 6.0.2 update to eligible devices(eligible devices after the break). The update fixes long lasting Wi-Fi connectivity bug. Apple has tried to fox the issue in previous update, but the bug seemed to be too hard to fix with one update. There’s not much details on what else this update will include than the Wi-Fi bug fix.
The update is available now or in the near future in either iTunes or Software update in your iOS device.
Tumblr app for Android updated, adds tablet support!
Tumblr app for Android has only supported smartphones, until now. Tumblr just released new update for Android and this time the app supports Android tablets, there’s also now new feature called “following screen” and tweaked design. Company didn’t update iOS app yet, and if you’re iPad user, you’re still stuck to iPhone/iPod view. It’s weird that company decided not to add iPad support for their native app, but surely we can enjoy the iPad support later. Grab yourseöf updated Tumblr app for Android after the break
Huawei’s Ascend W1 and D2 confirmed for CES2013!
Huawei’s first Windows Phone, the Ascend W1 is no stranger to us, but there’s not been any certain launch date or any other formal details released until now. Huawei Senior Vice President Richard YU, told in Sina Weibo that company is going to formally introduce it’s Windows Phone Ascend W1 at CES 2013. Company is also going to release their latest Android powered smartphone Ascend D2 in CES 2013 as well.
Richard Yu also expressed his concerns that the D2 would be too expensive to produce with it’s high-end specs: 5-inch 1080p display, quad-core 1.5GHz CPU, 13MP camera on the back and 3,000mAh battery. There’s no official word about the price tag yet.
